McKamey Animal Center is bursting at the seams and waiving adoption fees to help find homes
It’s been a month for McKamey Animal Center as they respond to an overwhelming number of animals arriving daily at the shelter. The shelter has over 400 animals in their care and an additional 120 animals in foster care outside the shelter.
To provide an incentive to adopt animals the center is waiving adoption fees on dogs and cats whenever the adopter purchases a pet care kit for their cat and dog which includes items such as a leash, collar, cat carrier, litter pan, etc.. The cost of the kit is $20. This offer does not include ambassador dogs or puppies.
Lost and abandoned animals abound this time of year due to the impending holiday of the 4th of July. The fireworks cause animals to run away, vacationing pet owners relinquish pets, people moving during summer months and others are simply abandoned or neglected and require confiscation. Regardless the reason—animal shelters are overflowing starting in June prior to the July 4th holiday.
If citizens want to help ease the overcrowding at their local animal shelter they can adopt, foster, volunteer, or donate money or enhancement treats to make life easier for those pets such as chew toys, raw hides, cat treats and toys. Donations of canned dog and cat food as well as kitten formula are very much needed.
McKamey is looking for potential foster homes for the animals. If interested in being a foster parent for animals awaiting adoption please go to the McKamey website at www.mckameyanimalcenter.org or contact the foster coordinator at firstname.lastname@example.org
McKamey Animal Center is the area’s largest animal protection organization receiving over 6000 animals annually and spaying or neutering over 15,000 animals annually.

Microchipping FAQ's -
Q: What is a microchip?
A microchip is a small (about the size of a grain of rice) permanent electronic idenification chip that is loaded with important information about your pet. The chip is implanted subcutaneously (just under the skin) between the shoulder blades at the back of your pet's neck.
Q: How can a microchip save my pet's life?
When an animal is submitted to a shelter or brought to any facility with microchip reading technology, one of the first steps upon the animal's arrival is checking for a microchip. If a microchip is found the owner is immediately contacted. The return to owner rate is 20x higher if the animal has a microchip!
Q: Does the process hurt my animal?
Implanting a microchip feels no different than routine shots for your pet. In fact, the process only takes a few seconds.
Q: Is microchipping only for dogs?
Both dogs and cats can be microchipped.
Q: How much does microchipping cost?
On Thursday, June 29th from 4-7pm microchipping services are free thanks to our sponsors Datamars and the McKamey family.
No appointment is necessary.
